Bassenthwaite

Cumbria - The Lake District
Here you will find not only stunning scenery -tranquil lakes, majestic mountains and secluded valleys, but also a wealth of literary and historic attractions. For over 200 years the Lake District has attracted poets, writers and artists as a place of inspiration. Painted by Turner and Constable and written about by the poet William Wordsworth, who in 1810 wrote a "Guide to the Lakes" for "Persons of Taste"!

Consequently the Lake District became a very trendy destination for 18th and early 19th century tourists, attracted by the wild remote scenery - the terrifying, craggy mountains and the dark, deep lakes - "the romantic and the sublime".

They travelled by Stagecoach, "The Good Intent" - along the bumpy, dusty tracks and up the steep mountain passes, the coachman straining to hold the brake on the way down. No wonder they were terrified!

Today you can see the Lake District in 21st century comfort in a luxury air-conditioned Chrysler Voyager, fully insured to carry up to 6 passengers.

Experience the timeless beauty of the Lake District landscape - learn about its fascinating history and the people who lived here.
